Chairman’s Update

Dear Tri2O’ers

Welcome to your April Tri2O Newsletter! Thanks again to our Communications Officer Sunil for pulling it all together.

The rain has nearly stopped and Spring is definitely “in the air” and with the Triathlon season now in sight, I have finally felt the urge to enter some events and am really looking forward to more swim / bike / run activities with fellow Tri2O’ers in the great outdoors.

Thanks to all contributors to the newsletter, we can only publish what our members provide so please do share any race reports or experiences over the coming weeks / months for future newsletters. Please email write ups to info@tri20.club

Our Social Sec Clare has kindly arranged an exciting early season event in conjunction with our friends at TVT – SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS – this will be a fun, team Enduro style Triathlon aimed at every level. The Hi5 lake is a perfect venue for this and more importantly the post event Food that Clare has booked looks delicious and comes highly recommended 😋 – Book your place via TeamApp now.

Thanks to all committee members and coaches for giving their time planning club activities and events for 2024 we have plenty of Tri2O Type 2 fun to look forward to.

You may recall from my previous newsletter update that I will be standing down as Chairman at the next AGM. If you are interested in the role of Chair or potentially other committee roles please feel free to drop me an email chairman@tri2o.club to arrange a chat.

I look forward to seeing you on the 23rd May or at a Tri2O event soon.

Best wishes

Mike Nash

Chairman

Club Captain’s Report

Easter has come and gone, and with race season on the near horizon I think I speak for everyone when I implore bloody rain to stop!

Although the weather has not been the best, Sunday club rides have been happening, swim sessions remain as popular as ever and it’s been great to reconnect with other Tri2O Orange Army members at parkruns.

There are loads of opportunities to get involved with the club, getting some training done whilst hanging out with club mates – keep an eye on the Stack Team App and the Facebook group for all the details.

Finally, just to mention the club championships! The first sprint tri is coming round on the early May Bank Holiday – Hart Triathlon in Fleet on Monday 6th May. At the time of writing, places were still available and a large Tri2O contingent is likely to support on the day. There may even be some baked goods for those attending…

Look forward to seeing you all at a session soon!

Club Captain

Social Dates for your diary

Social with TVT

With the triathlon season fast approaching, why not partake in a pre season social triathlon with our friends from TVT. It is set to be an exciting team Enduro Triathlon Race, further details as follows:

Date: Thursday 23 May

Time: 6.00pm (kick off time so be there a bit before to get ready)

Location: High5 Swim Centre (Reading Lake Hotel)

Cost: £20 (this is a contribution towards the cost, the club will also be funding an element of this event)

The race will consist of the following sequence:

  • 200m swim
  • 1.7km cycle
  • 600m run
  • 200m swim
  • 1.7km cycle
  • 600m run
  • 200m swim
  • 1.7km cycle
  • 600m run

In your team of 3, each member must complete at least one leg of the race. However, you can hand over at the transition area as many times as you like, making it a flexible and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Teams will be assigned in advance to ensure a well balanced and enjoyable event. Remember this is a social and not an Olympic level competition, so is open to all skill levels to take part and have fun.

The bike leg will take place off road with a scenic lap around the lake so please use whatever bike you feel most comfortable completing this in if you are planning to take part in the cycle element.

We have organised a delicious paella at the lake for you to fuel up after these efforts and catch up with old and new friends.

Booking is on team app – please ensure you book on the event and purchase a ticket. Booking will close a week prior as we will need to confirm numbers for catering.

See you at the starting line!

Summer BBQ

As we enjoyed last year, Daniel and I will be hosting a BBQ at ours in the summer (let’s hope the weather is friendly to us). This will be kindly funded by the club and the proposed date is Saturday 6th July (subject to the sun shining – sun dances at the ready!)

This will be a relaxed afternoon with a chance to catch up with club mates, whilst enjoying a BBQ. I am sure there will be cycles arranged nearer the time, and I will also ask if those not cycling could bring a chair to ensure we have enough for all to sit down! Sign up on team app.
