Chairman’s Update

Dear Tri2O’ers

Welcome to your Tri2O December 2023 newsletter, thanks once again to Sunil for pulling it all together.

It was great catching up with everyone (see above photo + others not in photo) at a rather wet and muddy Reading parkrun last Saturday. The post run coffee and cake really hit the spot!

Thank you to those members who joined the annual AGM on 30th November. It was a productive meeting and exciting to see members new and old volunteering for Committee roles.

The link to the minutes of the meeting is can be found here.

I would like to take this opportunity to show my gratitude and thanks to the following committee members who stood down from their roles this year, for their commitment and efforts towards making Tri2O a great club to be part of:

Stuart Jay, Pete Gough, Neil Harris, Clare Harris, Anthony Dench, Susan Martin and Zoe Hawkins

And a BIG thank you to the following members who have kindly stepped forward to be part of the committee:

  • Roger Ganpatsingh Treasurer
  • Paul Archer Club Captain
  • Nicky Rumsey Membership Secretary

Annual Awards – 10th Feb 2024

As we are now fully into off season it can only mean one thing… the annual club awards! Join us at Market House in Reading on Saturday 10th February to celebrate club mates success from last season, have a chat about plans for the season ahead, and you never know you might even pick up an award yourself!

The event is live on team app to sign up – following a kind donation we have maintained prices at the same level as last year – £15 for members and £20 for non members. It is always a great evening with amazing Buffet. I would encourage everyone to sign up sooner rather than later!

Look forward to seeing you there and hearing about what people have planned for 2024.

Thanks
Clare Hawthorn

We will be giving awards to the winners in the following triathlon categories: Sprint, Standard, Middle and Long (Ironman) distances; and an award for the best multisport (duathlon, aquathlon, aquabike or swim-run) performance.

In addition to the Club Championship awards, as agreed at the AGM, we will also be handing out awards as follows – we need your nominations!!

It is awarded to the most helpful, supportive, and enthusiastic Club member who has inspired and motivated others. Previous winners of this award have been Christina Demetriou, Sean Stewart, Georgia Jackson, Sunil Fernandes, Neil Harris and Clare Harris.

Against All the Odds: Awarded to a member who has overcome adversity and battled challenges either before or during a race.

Most Engaged Newcomer: Awarded to a member who joined the Club after the 2022 Reading Tri (held on 11 September) and who has supported the activities of the Club or volunteered at a Club event. New members are:  Katie & Greg Brittles, Kieron Cartledge, Roberta Ceci, Patrick Coffey, Miles Crossley, Robin Denton, Ben Duggan, Kat Duncan, Vicky Elson Smith, Natalie Emery, Jenny Evans, Stella-Sophie Ferguson, Paul Glover, Charlotte Haines, Matthew Holton, Jules Hopkinson, Kirsten Jack, Samantha Johnson, Clare Kelly, Owen Lee, Mark Lowries, Bilal Mohamed, Ray Norris, Kirsten Sellick, Emma Siveyer, Benjamin Sutton, Donna Thorne, Tom Webb, Stephen West, Rory White-Andrews, Simon Williamson, Debbie Wilson, Marek Zawadzki

Thanks!

Swim Officer Vacancy

Can anyone take over from me as the club’s Swim Officer?

After a number of years managing the Tri2o swim sessions, I feel that it’s time to pass the role onto someone who may be a more regular attendee at training sessions. Someone who is more involved in the sport and may even race! This person would be able to seek feedback from fellow swimmers about what the members really need from the club sessions. The fresh ideas this generates will be fed into the training sub-committee and, through Georgia, to the people who run this great club.

The role is very simple and involves the following admin:

Booking the pools for our four, weekly, swim sessions (pretty much done for 2024, already)

Being the point of contact for these suppliers and sending them any paperwork they need such as Club insurance, lifeguard qualifications etc.

Making sure that we have a qualified lifeguard for sessions at Crosfields pool (currently this is Georgia’s son but we need an occasional substitute)

If you think that you might be able to take on this role and want to discuss a handover, please get in touch. My details are below:

Thanks
